Details of our Life

I'm pretty sure this might not mean lighting in my master bedroom
I have to really believe this right now. I'm not joking when I say, God helps me each day not to go insane living in a
Milkbarn mess. Although we chose to do this, the effect of challenge can make you grow in character or the alternative,
turn your heart cold.
It has been hard this last week. So, I decided to just write a random post about life here. And soften my construction heart up.

Alaskan siding
We have got the master suite wrapped in Tyvek, also known as Alaskan siding. If you ever get a chance to visit beautiful Alaska you might notice an above average appearance of Tyvek. Clay says, once an Alaskan gets the house enclosed...that's good enough. We are painting the siding now. We will be doing a board and batten. We've painted 10% of the boards.

"helping the contractor"
One of my first dates with Clay was welding in his garage on his 66' Ford Mustang. He likes me around when he works. And when I can't help him he likes me to sit and visit with him. He will inevitably say each saturday, "come sit with me". He'll get me a chair. And I sit. And talk about whatever. This time he gave me a paint bucket for my legs. I hurt my foot the day before.

Best Helper
Audrey can stick with a job the longest. She has a bit of grit. This was the look on her face all afternoon. We were putting in new windows in the master suite. We chose a Pella bronze window to use throughout the house. They are heavenly.

Good at Math
Good math enrichment. She excels in math and spacial design.
She is our daughter for sure.

Squirrels!
The leech field in our backyard has grown out of control. We need a riding mower stat! The only thing about riding mowers is that if you've ever watched Madmen Season 1...there is an incident with a riding mower that has scarred me. I need to get over it and realize we are not drunk ad executives.
We are nice Mormons remodeling a home.
So, we'll get one with a million other things we have to buy for this milk disaster barn.

2nd grade hike
I accompanied Audrey's 2nd grade class on a hike behind their school. Boulder is just beautiful and this activity made me love their school so much. I also love children. They make me laugh. And her class is a quirky one. They stepped in mud on purpose and then would exclaim, "oh no! I'm all muddy...cool!" I kept reacting so well, they stepped in more mud.

4th grade art hike
The next day I did another hike with Henry's class for art. The children used found nature objects and made sculptures together.
I'd like to think I hiked with my future daughter in law as well.
Grace.

Voodoo or art ?
I made this one. The kids smiled like,
"hmmm... Henry's mom is clueless"

Chair Soccer
That night I played chair soccer with the youth in our church congregation. It was so fun. I got a bruise so big, I won't wear shorts yet. Bring it on Daniel. I have my eye on you.

Urgent Care
Foot problems. My foot hurt before I did the 2 hikes and soccer but within 24 hours of doing said activities, I couldn't walk.
So I took myself in.
I was told to stay off of it.
That's funny.
Dear mother of 4...please stay off your foot the last week of school.

My Dud
My Dad came to town. It was just so great to have him visit.

Sitter of the Year
And then he "watched" Chester while I did some shopping.

Nederland in a hailstorm
We took a Sunday drive in the mountains...in a hail storm. I found out two things last Sunday.
1. Audrey has a tiny bladder and
2. I am a great driver. Because that was nuts.

Moth infestation After math
There is a Miller Moth problem in Boulder. And we had a surge of them getting into our home and attic. So lamps were busted and dried guts are all over the walls. By the way, they are huge. I call them Dinosaur Moths. The fly swatter is shredded.

Miss Kim
Have you ever met someone that you knew was supposed to be in your life at a certain time for a certain reason?
     Here is Miss Kim.
She was Chester's preschool teacher for the last 2 years. We were meant to stay here for her. She is beyond amazing and helped Chester so much.

Bros
These are Chester's friends from school, his posse, his "bros".

Black Bear, Black Bear what do you see?
We had a visit 2 nights ago. I got out of bed to kill a fluttering dinosaur moth which is so annoying.
I got back in bed and heard the garbage can kick over. I thought...Rocky! That little bandit. Then I looked out the window and thought, Rocky looks
really big.
A healthy 350 lb black bear knocked the can over and pulled the bungee cord off with finesse. Eating right outside our front door. Gently going through my garbage, picking and choosing what he wanted. I heard him yell out too. And then I didn't fall asleep for another 2 hours.
I was a wreck.
Clay was fast asleep.
Because bears don't scare him.

Best neighbor ever
We love Paul and Janet.
Paul came riding up on his mower today to help cut the jungle in our backyard down. They feed us food and fun.
I love my neighbors.

A month away
Bronzelee is a month away from having piglets. She is so, so huge.
I wonder if her back hurts. I am hoping her babies will inherit her friendly nature. I also hope bears don't like pigs.
And the mountain lions stay away.
Okay, now I might be freaking myself out again.

I promise my next post will have master suite progress and more construction. And I will share all the details. Because special details make a house a home. I'm set to order fixtures and closet systems this week. And paint. and dig up cacti in the backyard.
And.....try not to go insane.

Comments

  1. I love your awesome little milkbarn. Remembering the details will make the finished project that much sweeter.

Sports Mom Era

I think I saw this coming but maybe I didn't really see this coming:) I am a sports mom. Plain and simple. I had other hats too like library mom, classroom aid mom, costumes for musicals mom, outdoorsy hiking mom, musical mom, jazz band mom, tech crew mom, art mom, spring break mom, etc etc etc But sports mom has been a pretty big theme in my life:) So, in honor of my Dad's birthday today and his absolute love of sports, I share this to save the memoires.  Because one day, it will be just that, sweet and crazy sports mom era memories:) Okay, so I love JV games because the weather at 4pm in the Bay Area and even coast side was amazing last year. Tee shirt and jeans? Heavenly  Fall 2024 (he already looks different) Friday morning fits Becky Ruppel photography↑ In the middle of football season lies the beast of the high school basketball pancake breakfast. Audrey Opens Her Mission Call!

It's been so long since I wrote. but THIS! This needs to be recorded for all.  Earlier in the fall of 2024, after wondering why she hadn't had any specific experience letting her know if she should serve a mission, Audrey did receive her own personal answer. You already know. She called me and relayed her quiet yet powerful experience.   She later met with her YSA Bishop and opened her mission papers!      Everything fell into place with all her appointments and paperwork *phew  On the morning of December 31st...she received an email alerting her she had her call waiting to be opened in her missionary portal! She was all nerves haha So, we got ready and headed to Montara Beach per her request to read her call...and thankfully, we were all home to share this with her.  Such a sweet and tender moment to launch 2025 with💗 Dominican Republic  Santo Domingo East Mission! Spanish speaking June 2nd Mexico MTC after a week of home MTC :) I'm really proud...

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycoll...
