The June Report: Insulation, Studs and Gratitude

Again, a jumbled kind of post but that's just life                                 right now....

Ocean clouds over the Milkbarn
Boogie boarding in thunderstorms.
He headed out once he saw the above storm come in.

The almost, not quite done master suite above.

So,I said we would have the mas
ter suite done by June 1st.
Hilarious.
We have now started work on the girls room while they are away with Grandma and Grandpa in Alaska.
Never mind master bedroom. We didn't need to catch up on 9 months of sleep. We prefer aging rapidly.

We ripped off more siding on the house around the girls room. We need to remove siding as we put in our new windows.
We're going for a  calico effect here.
I didn't know it was possible to make this house look any

any worse.

And then we pulled up carpet in the girls room and surprise!! Found this pebbly linoleum treasure.
Side note, this linoleum is the back splash in our current kitchen.
Jealous?

Clay and Anders hanging on a friday night.
Hey, I know...hand me that dresser and let's drywall it between the closets!
In a previous post I mentioned maybe drunks built the house. Now, after discovering a dresser drywalled into the girls room between the two closets, I'm betting on hallucinogenics.
Can you imagine this conversation?

Somewhere "that's where we'll put the weed" played into it.
Holy
Prepping for insulation. Looking warmer or cooler already.
You blow the insulation through the holes, we have shredded paper insulation.
Window issues
We have casement (swing out) windows which is oh so nice...until it hit the overhanging roof.
Insert Homer's "DOH!" here.
I should mention here construction is pretty exhausting and brains break down more than average.
Throw in allergies and we all look like Doc from Back to the Future.

At least we caught it with the first one, so now they are all a little lower.
Party Sconces
I'm not sure if I should turn these on or pour a drink in them.

We also ripped the whole wall down to bump the girls room out 8 inches into the current kitchen which will become a little den someday. And then I realized that wall had most of my paint swatches on it.
Double Doh!
Disgusting
Insulation taken out of the attic above the girls room.
It's itchy and looks like dead animal. Or what cats gag up.

Speaking of insulation, here is the Tron-like exterior insulation we will wrap around over the Tyvek.
We will later side it by the end of the summer. But I might be lying again about deadlines. Although, I really don't want a silver foiled house. Then again, it could be cool at Halloween with a strobe light going.

I think I want a nice fresh white farmhouse exterior.
What color would you go for? I'd love to hear your choices.
I'll take 3 phone lines and 5 cable lines for the win Alex
I'm still at a loss as to what the former owner did for a living. There are cable and phone lines winding through the house like veins.
Due to my hallucinogen theory, I'm thinking conspiracy theorist at a very high level.
ba-da-bum.
Studs in the girls room(wait...that sounds kinda...)
Once my husband was called a stud for moving a single mom and her girls belongings out of their condo onto a moving truck. Apparently he moved large bookcases and mattresses on his back and by the time the rest of the guys from church showed up...it was pretty much done.
That story has nothing to do with this photo other than it involves the word
stud.

Clay widened the driveway and now we have an almost round about! People, it is safe to enter and park!

Life in June and what I am grateful for.....
Indoor pic-i-nic
We invited a few friends over for a picnic.
And then it rained cats and dogs.
Our Three Day, Five Pound Weekend in California
Clay and I took a really great trip to San Luis Obispo, Carmel and San Francisco. We ate good food but now my pants don't fit.
I am grateful for skirts.
Bean Hollow Beach
This is where Clay asked me to marry him on a cold, blustery day. So we stopped and spent time there.
I love him more and more as time goes by. I am grateful he left Alaska and moved to San Francisco.
Green Apple Books on Clement
Finding this book. After reading it, we seemed validated about our crazy idea for this house situation.
We are artists and therefore, to outsiders, appear nutso.
I am grateful though to be able to work on talents that I may or may not have. Like patience.

Chester and me time
With everyone in Alaska he has gotten a little spoiled. That's okay. I like picnics and swinging with him in the shade. Plus, my heart melts when he says...you know what mom?
Or...can I tell you something?

I found another Mama living at the Milkbarn.
A pretty Robin has made a nest by the boys bedroom window.
Have you ever seen a color that beautiful?

Boulder is especially beautiful right now. Fire and floods from the past two years have made way for a gorgeous renewal. It makes me think of my own world. My life is made more beautiful when I am put through challenging times and seasons. I become more grateful, more humble. And far better person when I am refined by the nature of life.

My angel neighbor brought me lavender on the day I needed to calm down.

Thank you for reading. I miss my children. Three weeks is a long time to not tell someone to brush their teeth/make their bed/practice piano-sigh/stop bugging your sister or brother/clean your toes out because that is seriously disgusting/or hear I love you mom. And give them hugs and kiss their heads and tell them I'm lucky to be their mom.

I hope to show you an end product soon. I feel like you just keep seeing ugly fixtures and dry walling.
Cross your fingers a room will get done!

  2. Although I can't wait to see the end product (you two are insanely talented in complementary ways), seeing this process is fascinating, hilarious, and makes me want to stretch myself too. Inspiring!

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
