Road Trips of 2023: Part 1...Great Basin National Park and some PROVO

A trip was planned around Chester's BYU Football camp...and we needed to make it fun. I couldn't just drive 12 hours and turn around and drive another 12 hours :( I'm not built for boring drives.
Henry stayed at home to work which was a bummer but Audrey had a BYU campus tour set. And Lucy needed to go out to see some missionary friends to feel normal :)
So off we went!
First Stop: Donner Lake State Park!
We had lunch and messed around at the lake...it smelled glorious and made me miss living in the Rockies.

Found the best Mexican food in Elko...Chester made the comment that "all the working guys come here mom, so it must be good" :)
And it was!

It doesn't matter how old they get, hotel pool swimming is still fun:)
The second day we drove through the eastern basin in Nevada and it was just green and gorgeous from all the rain and snow.
It was spectacular!
Known for the Lehman Caves, we did the tour.
50 degrees at all times.
It was super cool.

Above ground activities :)
Wheeler Peak

Looking at their phones...in a national park
hahaha

A park ranger recommended a hike up Pole Canyon and she promised us an array of wildflowers:)

The promise was fulfilled:)

The creeks were so full
We stayed later than we thought and made our way through this huge storm.
Crazy beautiful nature:)
Oh Delta, Utah...
making me turn around and laugh and feel good
Kicking it up at Sundance...
again with the gushing creeks and melting snow on a Sunday afternoon!
Aunt Leslie, my sister, showing me the dilapidated cabin we will remodel for her :)
Documenting the avalanche at Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon.
After we left, my sister informed me the county blew it up for safety reasons.
Utahns for ya, no barricade or warning sign can tell them what to do....haha

Football by the creek :)

I feel like this is the perfect picture of summertime :)
Monday we spent the whole day on campus at BYU!
All checked in for football camp.
He had a blast
The selfie he took on the field
Meanwhile we toured the art museum and art building which is in the old Provo High School.
Audrey never got cool lockers with an indoor high school so here she is, living her teenage dream!

The iconic Y peaking out from campus

We had a full day with checking Chester in, getting Audrey and Lucy to tour the campus, visiting with Stephanie, and Lucy trying to transfer...and that's just a whole other post!

Spending our last day in Provo with the girls and Leslie.
River walk, shopping and lunch!

Automatically addicted to this fabric store, Harmony:)
The day we left, we visited the Saratoga Springs temple open house.
Don't ask me about the weird tour guide or else Aunt Leslie will burst out laughing. But besides that, it was a lovely way to spend the morning.
We split our way home in half and stopped at the Salt Flats right before Wendover :)

It was such a fast, jam packed trip.
And I'm thinking we may have more Utah trips to come.
zonked out in the back...alive in the front
Here we are and almost home...Donner Lake has good restrooms!
haha

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
