Alaska: Week 2

Week 2 of our trip we headed over to stay with Grandma and Grandpa!
We had some beautiful fall days coupled with rain and clouds...
but they easily cleared up in the afternoon for more time outside.

We know who runs this place now.
Meet Rocky :)
The only person not a fan was Chester.
In his defense...he really just doesn't know what to do with dogs.
He is more open with humans :)

The Grandparents have 2 icelandic horses on their property.

All of the grandkids have had turns riding Dagger (not pictured)
and feeding Dagger.
We even prayed for Dagger's return when he ran off while with Grandpa and Clay on a hunting trip one year.
He was found months later after surviving the better part of the winter.
It really was a miracle.

Now he is old and his time might be coming to an end soon.
My kids love him.

Grandpa got his sister's cider press for some very fun and delicious cider making.

Chester and Audrey were into the workings and tastings of their afternoon
with Grandma and Grandpa :)

The freshest cider...cold off the press!

Rocky has to sit in his seat, no matter who is there
haha

Grandpa built a little log cabin for his root cellar and a sauna he is building.
The thing we love about Grandma and Grandpa is that they always have projects going on :)

Probably the best cherries we have ever had in our lives.
Grandma is a superb baker and made a pie for us.
It was so gooood.

Spent raspberries with lots and lots of flies enjoying the end of the season.

Another portrait of Rocky...he is pretty cute.

Smith Road

Audrey, Grandma and I had a night out to ourselves and as we got home, the sunset was brilliant.
This is the Sleeping Lady :)

I have never made a quilt before in my life. I bought this pattern last February at Cattywampus in Ojai and Mandy took me to Sylvia's in Wasilla for quilting fabric. It looked easy enough for me :)
Anyway, fast forward... quilting requires a different side of my brain and I had to laugh at myself.
I kept thinking...this is too much math!
haha

Henry and Chester before their "Alone" campout with grandpa.
They picked berries, made a shelter and loved being with Grandpa.

A rainy morning of distance learning :)

Grandma (or Nie Nie's) famous Spudnuts
I think Henry ate at least 6.

Audrey enjoying making donuts with grandma.
Not seen were the two of them making whoopie pies and chocolate waffle cookies :)

Ending our stay with a walk with cousins on Marcus' 9th birthday :)

Pictured goodbyes with family...it was so good to reconnect
and enjoy everyone in beautiful Alaska:)

p.s. Chester never really got used to Rocky
haha

we miss everyone already...and some of that cider too!

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
