Captain's Log: Father's Day Week!

Father's Day!

He is a good Dad.
They all filled out an "All about Dad" questionnaire
(which was hilarious as he read them out loud to us)
and the 2 older ones also wrote him sweet letters.
A Father's Day tradition I began a few years back :)

He threw himself in the pool with Chester :)

Bounty from the Clay Collins Garden

The gazebo is up and just needs the roof!

last week was filled with playing in the pool and getting this one ready for college...filling out all the paperwork to play basketball is huge! We got word she can head up to SLO but the protocols are very intense.
 I can't believe she'll be leaving in a month.
Also, her face looks like 6 year old Lucy here :)

I sat and waited for my hummingbird friends

there are two hummingbirds that buzz around playfully, swooping in and out of the flowers. After I put the feeders out, I can watch them more!
They like this flat disk feeder best :)

putting together 3 of their subscription kits...we made it a competition.
Audrey had the lamp, Chester the calendar,
Henry the desk...turns out the desk was the easiest!
They told Lucy to take it with her to college, haha.

Clay and I have also been perfecting our plate lunch since he got us a grill :)

taking Lucy's ID photo for Cal Poly :)
Dang it, we are going to miss her!

San Diego day to celebrate a very special little guy!

Audrey and Henry playing with the preschoolers, haha

Avery and Chester playing all afternoon together :)

my Dad beaming while talking to Mark

Cute last pic of the day with kids of their cousins but we just call them all cousins :)

And a report on the pandemic: It is still spreading in Los Angeles County.
I filled out a form regarding learning preferences for school starting in the fall.
Not an option for  "go back to school everyday".
Businesses are opening back up, masks are worn everywhere, we continue to just stick around home and beaches.
People seem to be going back to normal but it's just not normal.
They aren't acting normal at all!

It is stunning to realize how quickly government exercised the authority to shut everything down.
Yes, for good reasons.
Absolutely.
But now, I'm left wondering why everything feels so cherry picked.

Why do leaders seem so permissive on both sides of the coin?

I am deeply grateful for our prophet, President Nelson who has showed true leadership in a world which lacks truth telling.
We can say what we believe but until we live it daily and teach our children what is important
...then it won' t really matter.

Good things to come?
I really hope so

Audrey's off! Santo Domingo East Mission

Here she is.  On a split.  In the campo(country)! Dominican Republic Time hop to May when she received her tags :) Her paper giving her permission to proselyte! Pre-mission things to do were: picture with flag at temple ✓ hikes in the sun✓ being set apart as a missionary in our home✓ home mtc p-day shenanigans✓ last taco bell supper :) ✓ hugs that need to last 18 months✓ Her first MTC phone call home. She had too much fun there but why not? This missionary mom will send you one package to the mtc... and that's it :) Upon arrival, she met her mission presidents!  Presidente y Hermana Chaverri Meeting her trainer in the field:) And after a mini transfer, meeting her new trainer! Her spanish will improve exponentially (she is from Nicaragua!)  The scripture she shared as she was in the Mexico MTC:)  I wrote it out so each day I could walk by it and remember her, and  remember the joy the gospel of Jesus Christ brings💗 I cry a little more nowadays but she has ...

The Milkbarn Path

Before fall came, Clay was determined to design and construct a walkway to the Milkbarn. Yay!!! Because we had a very narrow, shoddy (what? shoddy at the milbarn? *gasp*) ,  unevenly paved sidewalk to the front door which we knew needed a serious redo.  We bought the pavers from Lowes awhile ago and had them piled up in front of the house for months.  FYI, voles make homes under pavers.   Doesn't it look awesome ? Nice, wide, perfect curve and now easy to shovel when the snow comes. The curve looks just right against the angles of the house. I planted some tulips under the trees and near the front door.  I'm not holding my breath that anything will come up given my gardening expertise.  But again, I do believe in miracles. :) Truth! ! 1600 Sq. ft and going strong...and now with a pathway! I was trying to think of all the photos that have a pathway or walkway in them.  Here we are at the Fort Colli...

February 2019: Queen of Hearts

💘 February is a mix of triumph over January and the heart filled cooler days until March. It's like the happy bridge to spring. But I live in a place right now where winter kind of feels  like a Colorado spring.  We even got snow the other day here! Turning a Nike shoe box into a valentine collector Chester's homemade class valentines :) Audrey's socks given to her by her sunday school teachers! She is kind of the queen of February On Valentine's day Chester's class was invited to make lunch and decorate at the Santa Clarita Valley food services for both elementary school districts. It was a big honor, only one class out of the 4 districts it services was chosen by lottery....
