La Jolla Cove |
We made a list of beaches to visit this summer, not all of them made the cut...
but here are a few of them via the Collins summer beach days!
We've destroyed the boogie boards and the soft top got a lot of use.
We've eaten our weight in chips and salsa, candied chips ahoy, grapes and peanut butter/honey sandwiches.
Hoping Santa brings some surfboards this Christmas for next year.
And maybe some wetsuits too :)
Last weekend we visited La Jolla Cove on a clear Sunday morning for some sightseeing.
Good thing we had masks on, the bird poop was pungent.
It sort of smelled like dirty cat litter...but the smell stayed in one spot as we walked around to take in the sights. So, that was a plus!
I fondly remember being 7 and going to a shell shop here and feeling like I should open a shell shop too, haha.
In fact, my mom had a family portrait of just us kids taken here off those rocks with waves crashing in the back for flourish.
So many sea lions and seals to watch. It's so refreshing to watch life move about with no knowledge of how much the world seems in constant commotion. |
Looks like a good job to me!
I can relate to this lone sea lion away from the others.
If I were a sea lion, then this would be me :)
a little baby pup
San Diego is just one big postcard!
All of us wrapping up a day on Del Mar Beach off of 29th street.
I hit the jackpot when I found a coveted parking spot!
I love this beach.
I remember it fondly when I was little. Reliving my brother's escapades in the waves by the detail as he told me post surf session, smelling the salt air, feeling free in a way that only comes with being 7.
The sand is soft and silky. The water is warm and inviting...so everyone was in the waves for more than half the day or more!
Although these two crashed out :)
Clay knew how much we liked being at the beach so he bought a canopy for his skin and for his naps and book reading and lunching :)
Apparently, Bill Gates owns this house behind the turquoise umbrella
Before we started our Del Mar day, we grabbed breakfast burritos from Roberto's :)
47th Tower El Porto |
Last week, when we were getting our house staged for market, we met up with old friends at El Porto.
Waves were crazy choppy, much like you'd expect in the later afternoon.
This is how Chester recovers from getting beaten down, wave after wave, trying to just get up on the board.
These nerds did a cheer pose before getting their rash guards on and heading out with Emmett and Olive.
Avila Beach |
I've inserted these 2 photos to reference where Lucy has been living the past 6 weeks.
It's fair to say, she has gotten her fair share of beach days...everyday.
As Chester put it, "your life sounds so fun Lucy"
Torrey Pines Nature Preserve |
Post beach day with cousins as we walk to Roberto's!
Carpinteria State Beach |
Then there is always an off day at the beach where people are crowding and one person is smoking weed and there are no waves and it just seems too much.
At least for my mom brain.
It's like everyone who doesn't want to take precautions for social distancing...showed up at this beach today.
We decided we didn't ever need to go back to this one for a long time.
Rincon Beach |
But this beach day was one for the books!
When I saw this photo I thought...
you can take the boy out of Colorado
but you can't take the Colorado out of this boy!
typical sighting at Rincon
drift wood forts and parasailing/paragliding
I took this shell home and after some prodding and boiling, a big coiled booger was removed. These shells wash up here often!
Clay and Lucy |
Henry in the mist |
It was a great day of playing, eating, relaxing and learning to surf.
And surprise surprise, I did some more shell collecting :)
Seriously, more Roberto's! |
My brother Kurt and his family were came for their annual San Diego summer vacation, so we crashed their party!
Here are the girls lined up in order from Lucy to tannest :)
I think San Diego was our favorite spot this summer.
I should have brought the soft top this day but oh well :)
the goobers had fun
I don't know what they'd do without each other through this pandemic.
