Spring Breakers 2019

Spring Break!

Clay took a monday off so we headed to the central coast
...and I'm ready to move up there at any point in my life, haha...
stopped in Pismo Beach
It has cleaned up since I have last been there.
We grabbed lunch at the Splash Cafe (with everyone else in town)

Chester did his 4th grade mission report on the San Luis Obispo Mission. He told us everything he remembered. Of all the times I have been there, we have never gone in so it was special.

As much as the mission was catching my eye...this school(probably private) took over my curiosity!
The picture does not do it justice. All white troweled stucco, no molding, dark bronze windows...I told Clay, this was it.
Build this for me one day! haha

3 bells for 3 kids

we sat in the church for awhile, read prayers and listened to choral music being rehearsed

we left and headed down the main shopping area, went into a toy store and then all the puppet memories of childhood cropped up for all :)

Bubblegum Alley really is disgusting

DAD !!!

I went to my absolute favorite furnishings store called Habitat.
Bought votives.
I have too many now :)

Alright, we checked in and were ready to relax.
We didn't leave this 4 block radius for 48 hours!
The kids headed out to the beach, or pool, or breakfast.
The letting them go was great. They just came and went as they pleased!
The joys of older kids is REAL.
They really bonded on their own terms and I just got to be spring break mom :)

Our cute hotel!
We are definitely heading back there this summer.

Spring break Dad is fun too...he likes deserts :)

Lucy toured her first college, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
She was visibly annoyed with us.
So that means she is getting more and more ready for college!
hahaha

We started a new tradition of break puzzles. This one was slightly maddening. I am no good at them but it sucked me in and we finally finished it at home.
Clay said all he could see was pencil tips when he closed his eyes

We checked out after 2 nights because hello prices for spring break!
Next time we'll stay 3 nights.

Moonstone beach up in Cambria :)

coastal flowers are my favorite

even the thistles were just right

Clay had work in Fresno so we spent the day antiquing in Downtown Clovis. Chester talked shop and made a deal on a rookie basketball card.
The only thing we bought besides freezer burned ice cream for lunch. Yuck.

Clovis knows to put benches out for all the sons, boyfriends and husbands of shoppers, ha!

A giant used bookstore called the Book Barn
Audrey said she wished they had one like this in Santa Clarita so she could work there.
For someone who struggled with reading til 4th grade, she has found herself through books. She likes historical fiction with lots of emotion. The shop owner helped her choose a good one for spring break.

Once home we spent 2 days relaxing or for me, I finally got some energy to move stuff around in our house!

The final day was today. The weather yesterday and today was pretty blah at the coast so we didn't get to San Diego to see Grandpa and Grandma Ann. Although, Downtown LA was pretty decent :)

The Broad
Maybe my most memorable museum to date.
The architecture alone is worth the visit.

infinity room

I can say we all love art. We all see different things. Even Chester! He likes sculptures best. He is such a homebody.
I have to remind him to not ask when we are going home the minute we show up somewhere to explore :)

Walt Disney Music Hall is across from The Broad where the LA Phil plays amongst other shows

I told Henry maybe one day he'll work there. Dream big I always say. Even if you are an incredibly talented usher...dream big. I guess I don't want them to be nervous like me :)

Seeing that yellow school bus just reminds me how much school takes its toll on me. We had a very nice and easy week.
No fighting! Too much cookie eating! Time with Dad! Beach!
More eating! More laughing!

General Conference is this weekend. Which I am preparing for...
for once, haha.
In many ways I feel like this week has been the calm before the waves of life start up again.
Some waves are fun to ride,
some I just dive under,
some clobber me.
But  I always come out for the better.
Yay for spring break :)

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
