Santa Fe or Bust! 2018 Spring Break

Awe!
Spring Break came and went but here is the recap for memories sake.
I will say, we all looked forward to warmer temps and new adventures!

First stop: McDonalds for breakfast in Castle Rock
This has become a tradition as we leave on roadtrips.
I swear, it's like a 3 star michelin experience for them.
And me? I worked the breakfast shift at mickey d's in high school, so I'm a fan!

morning mural photoshoot :)

stopping in Trinidad to document how windy it was.
Lot's of campers and semi's tipped over northbound. It was insane.

We arrived in Santa Fe for a couple of days.
We hit the Georgia O'Keefe museum Friday afternoon. It's a beautiful space and they change the paintings. So it was all new work to experience. The kids got paper and pencils for sketching as well.

gosh, I loved these

this was one of my favorites

scrambling around downtown Santa Fe

Did you know the streets there are based off old donkey routes?...which is why I was turned and twisted around trying to find parking...haha

hanging chili peppers all around town
(i'd give anything to live in an adobe home with a chili pepper swag above my stove:)...another life though)

Cafe Pasqual for dinner

Funny story...I didn't look at the menu prices so once we sat down I thought...oh boy, this is going to be $$$ and then Henry said,
"mom, it's your birthday dinner" with a laugh and so, that was all it took!

it was so good and fresh
it was amazing
happy birthday to me :)

Saturday morning we headed over to Meow Wolf Museum. A couple of friends asked if we were going...with their excitement I had to take the kids. We got there at 9am and no lines...phew! It is an interactive museum with 70 rooms with a story to follow of a family that disappear. It's so cool. You just have to go. Here are some of the rooms below:

those lit up mushrooms on the tree play music notes
Henry was playing music everywhere...there was a laser harp!

I told them they could use this as their new album cover :)

After 2 hours of sensory overload, you can go into a room to paint and draw.
I also took 2 tylenol, haha

We drove out to the Bandelier National Monument
It was so cool!
The roads wind through the Los Alamos national labs.
Primitive dwellings coupled with top scientific work makes for a strange place

After eating in Los Alamos we headed out to Ghost Ranch.
Ghost Ranch is a retreat where Georgia O'Keefe would paint at a friends cottage

getting back late, we watched some March Madness on the tv, swam in the hotel pool and someone took funny photos

The next morning was Palm Sunday so we headed down to Old Town Albuquerque.
This is the San Felipe de Neri Church on the square. Some members were handing out palm leaves for those worshiping.
We were too late to take part in the service though.

so we goofed around some shops before we got on the road for Arizona

showing up in Phoenix to my sisters was the goal. Jonah and me were germ free and feeling better so we had some fun :)

looks like a good monday morning for spring break

it was my birthday so we all headed to In N' Out of course!

documenting turning 47
(my sister made me my favorite cake! and a bunch of cupcakes for the kids)

one of the highlights from my trip is that my dear friend Nicole lives just a stone's throw from Marce's house and we got to visit and share our children together.
We knew each other in our ward in San Bruno. She and her husband moved off to Phoenix, we headed to L.A. She was too good to me and opened up her home to us to party!

Tuesday we began the day at the Desert Botanical Garden

next stop: urban cookie
so delicious!

lunch at America's Tacos

me and Marcie with happy palm trees in the backgroud

afternoon pool play

I love this sister, I wish we were neighbors!
but we had to say goodbye and get back on the road

Crashed out on the bed
we stopped all along the way back to Santa Fe
highlight: Dairy Queen in Holbrook

on our way out of Santa Fe we stopped at the Pecos National Monument

by the end of any road trip the kids are just weird and running around with blankets over their heads

and now back to our Colorado spring
snow one day, 70 the next day!

It was a wonderful trip. Many people ask if Clay comes along with us, he does not for spring break. It's usually my time to just be a fun mom and I love the company with me to explore!
And fun mom means...yes, you can order a drink with your meal or sure, I can buy that eye ball super bouncy ball for you!

But fun mom is gone now and I'm back to being regular mom :)

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
