Little House in the Woods

Milkbarn Freeze
I think if I talk about how cold it's been this week I'll sound borderline whiny.
Let's just say my fingers are numb and toes frozen as I write.
We have no heat.
Well, a space heater and a fabulous Danish wood burning stove.

We keep it cranking all day.
It is a peculiar time in life.
My thoughts are always wandering down roads of time.
I'm in awe this is how people lived not too long ago.
My knitted hat is off to you.

Big story in a small nutshell:
get in-law apartment done(this is attached to the house, we opted to keep it), 6 Collins' will live in 600 sq. ft. while we rip up the main house in record speed.

Okay, so all of these shots are of the in-law unit torn out.
I did promise photos of debris.
Green walls are a bonus!
Very 60's.

Jolly Rancher colors
We put all new windows in and have a set of them overlooking the views. I think the idea of having a kitchen sink with a window over it is a must.
A must for daydreamers like me.
If you can't, you can't. Not everyone can configure their kitchen like that. Homes built in the 2000's are guilty of giving it's owner a kitchen sink overlooking a great room.

How did that happen?
Maybe helicopter parenting helped with that design? maybe the lure of reality t.v. watching while doing dishes?
I guess I don't get it.
I actually DO the dishes for alone time.
 I know, that's probably weird.
So, anyway, if you can have a window over a sink, just do it!

Sweating pipe for our heating
(please, no questions...I just trust him emphatically)
those poor floors
We are having the floors refinished in the 2 rooms and new wood installed in the kitchen in the unit with a 2 1/4" red and white oak. I really like working with people who are so good at what they do. Steel's Hardwood Floors, Inc will be doing the install and refinish. They are passionate about their work! And the nicest.

And speaking of wood...

Our current heating system and afternoon chore.

After work it's all play.

Or just nap time, Chester style.
Five year old life at the Milkbarn is pretty tiring.
I know. Those lashes.

And now a little thaw out begins until tomorrow mornings snow.
I might have to write another post about something warm.

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
