All the Nothing We Did Last Summer

Fall begins tomorrow and so before I lose the memories of summer to gold leaves, making soup, breaking out jackets and getting wood closer to the house,
I thought i would recount all the nothing we did last summer.

Early June is so bright and green here at home but alas, it was a dry summer and the grass turned brown by mid July, so this is the way I want to remember it :)

Here we are planting grass seed and covering it in hay to grow.
Some parts took, some parts got eaten by bunnies.

Okay! So this is what we did outside of the usual house projects last summer...

CU Basketball camp for the girls

Camping out in my bed when Dad leaves for his weekly work trips.
He's just too cute sometimes.

Battling a heat wave with no air conditioning requires trips to Nordstrom.
Here they are accessorizing.

Me in the blue with my boot camp group.
I basically worked myself out to nothing each week.
I'm the older one... the one a length behind everyone, the one who refuses to do dead lifts and is sore throughout the week and had to pysch myself up each time I went. But I did it!

Manitou Cliff Dwellings
The kids and I decided we would do weekly field trips around Colorado.
 Most of them liked it.
Chester always wanted to stay home. Chetty bear was outvoted.
Note his expression.
*oh brother.

Garden of the Gods

Swimming back in the canyon.
 Fun times.
The ultimate Boulder summer scene happens here.

Someone lost his front tooth.

Lucy turned 14.
I know she looks 17...
We headed to Pearl Street for dinner and hanging out!

We had our annual 4th of July picnic with our friends the Coons.

We couldn't light up the neighborhood like last year so we turned to blowing up watermelons :)

The Louisville library had a reading program the kids wanted to do...here is one of the prizes they received...free IHOP!

Our neighbors let our kids dip into their watering hole to cool off and... swing dry according to Chester.

Aunt Marcie outfitted them with hats.
 They wore them ALL summer.

Headed to Utah to bring Lucy to a BYU volleyball camp and got an evening to see nieces, my fun sister Leslie and my two sister in laws and 3 of the great grandchildren.
 Cute bunch!

Checking her into my dorm from freshman year...wah?
talk about blast from the past!
I don't keep up with BYU as some alumni do but it was fun to bring her there and see how it changed and then, didn't change.
She had a an amazing time.

Did an early morning hike up to Timpanogos Cave with these 3.
Living at such a high elevation made the hike a piece of cake.

Visiting the new Provo City Temple.
Audrey said..."I'd like to get married here...it's not white"
Audrey is always designing the peripherals of her life.

I can't believe Cami let us stay with her!
But she is good like that and makes us cookies even when I know she has other things to do.

Now back to our Colorado days
Behind our valley up in the mountains is Gross Resevoir.
It was so peaceful.
I wish we had a body of water closer to us.

The kids ran a successful lemonade stand on a Saturday.
They made some money and had kind customers.
50 cents a cup.
Audrey put some mint in the cups or strawberries to dress it up. Chester hammed it up on the side of the road with the sign and knew how to charm those cars to slow down and buy.

We did some hikes.

Mesa Trail
We did a trail that started near the elementary school and ended up behind our house at South Boulder Creek.

When the sky is spotless, you head to the mountains.
I got home from the gym and announced we were going to Brainard Lake, just an hour away.
It's my favorite place to just hike and be in the moment, listen to the wind through the trees and let the kids explore.
We stopped at our friends house (they live in the mountains on the way up and took them for added fun) and had a wonderful day.

Here is a blur of our whirlwind trip to Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver.
We got rained out.

But not until we rode the Cyclone 3 times before the park was
officially closed.
This roller coaster built in the 1930's (I think) is kind of scary.
Not the twists and turns and drops kind of scary...just the frayed and knotted seat belts that make me feel like one false move and it's over scary.

Henry turned 12! We had a party to top all parties... Endless games and one kid said, "this is the best party I've ever been too".
Mom win!

We swam in Superior with friends.
Much cleaner than the Eldo pool:)

Then of course we went for Gateway Park...
mini golf, go carts and games.
What's not to like?

Henry received the Aaronic Priesthood a week after he turned 12.
It was a very special day for him.
He is growing up fast. I love him dearly.

Playing volleyball at the pool
(excuse my finger in the photo)

And another Eldorado Pool shot with Chester flying off the metal slide.

Goodbye Summer

We'll see you next year :)

Sports Mom Era

I think I saw this coming but maybe I didn't really see this coming:) I am a sports mom. Plain and simple. I had other hats too like library mom, classroom aid mom, costumes for musicals mom, outdoorsy hiking mom, musical mom, jazz band mom, tech crew mom, art mom, spring break mom, etc etc etc But sports mom has been a pretty big theme in my life:) So, in honor of my Dad's birthday today and his absolute love of sports, I share this to save the memoires.  Because one day, it will be just that, sweet and crazy sports mom era memories:) Okay, so I love JV games because the weather at 4pm in the Bay Area and even coast side was amazing last year. Audrey Opens Her Mission Call!

It's been so long since I wrote. but THIS! This needs to be recorded for all.  Earlier in the fall of 2024, after wondering why she hadn't had any specific experience letting her know if she should serve a mission, Audrey did receive her own personal answer. You already know. She called me and relayed her quiet yet powerful experience.   She later met with her YSA Bishop and opened her mission papers!      Everything fell into place with all her appointments and paperwork *phew  On the morning of December 31st...she received an email alerting her she had her call waiting to be opened in her missionary portal! She was all nerves haha So, we got ready and headed to Montara Beach per her request to read her call...and thankfully, we were all home to share this with her.  Such a sweet and tender moment to launch 2025 with💗 Dominican Republic  Santo Domingo East Mission! We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycoll...
