Getting Schooled

Last minute run to the bus stop

The last weeks of school are always jam packed with events, sports, projects, you name it...so, getting to the bus on time can be quite the feat.

Here is our life from the last few weeks!

Henry finishing up his track season.
That's him in the green tank for Southern Hills running his relay.
His favorite event was the triple jump. Unfortunately, I could never get to the meets on time to catch him doing it! He also did the 200 and the 400.
But 6th grade has been tough on Henry as he tries to keep his standards at school.
By the last day though, he navigated it pretty well. He enjoyed his Jazz Band immensely and wants to switch from clarinet to alto sax.

A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor.

I think 7th grade will be awesome for him!

Lucy's last SHMS choir concert
All the 8th graders get a ceremonial goodbye rose.

Afterwards she had her M&M Choir rock concert.

Singing Purple Rain a week after Prince died.
I might have teared up.

In her Boulder County Soccer Club uniform.
She loves running out there on the field.
She has already declared what sports she will do in middle school:
volleyball, basketball, soccer and track.
I love that she loves being out there!

Clay and I watched on in the pouring rain Chester's
flag football team.
We must like it enough, right?

Taking a break from school stuff to teach them the virtues of a water weenie.

Consequences of water weenie time

Back to soccer, that's her running in the blue shorts, grey leggings and white shirt. She usually plays mid field
and does a tremendous job!

In the midst of the end of year crunch time, my neighbor invited me over for scones and tea.
It was lovely and much needed.

Okay, back to school stuff. Lucy was honored with a citizenship award by the Boulder Optimists Club. She was nominated by the staff of Southern Hills for showing school values in school and in the community. It was a great honor.

I'm pretty sure she was the tallest middle school student
to ever receive it :)

Last football game for the "Dominators" or as the parents called them the "Denominators".
Chester made a touch down and caught an awesome throw.
He is a great defender and runner. and finally figured out how to pull those flags off :)
He has quite the game face too!
(Henry asked why he looked mad, haha)
To play football is a dream come true for him.
He said he wants to play for the New York Jets one day, then he asked...
so Mom, do they pay me to play?
Or do I pay them?

Ignite.
Boulder Ignite is a series of 5 minute "talks" that each 8th grader is required to do. It's like a Ted Talk with slides timed with your presentation. 18 8th graders were chosen by their peers to present in the evening. Lucy's topic was about being tall. It was hilarious as she invited you into being a tall girl with graphs and statistics. The audience was cracking up.
She segued into how the grass isn't always greener and to find happiness in our differences. She said the grass is always greener on the other side if we don't water our own.
She loves being 6'1"

The 2nd to last day of school I traveled up to Fairview to get her registered for High school,
get her class list and take yearbook photos(Ah!).
She ran into an old friend from Superior Elementary, it was so cute to see them hug and reunite!
WAit...we're gonna have a high schooler?

Taken after the 8th grade awards ceremony.
She was presented again with her Citizenship award.
She then was honored with an Art award and her work was chosen for the school district calendar which won the school $250.
Another piece she did was entered into another competition.
Who knew she was a painter?
She also received an award for Choir along with another girl for leadership,
Honor roll and for getting into All State Choir.
She was kind of embarrassed by all the attention.
So we took this funny photo after the ceremony.

8th Grade Continuations

After the the middle school stuff we ran over to Audrey's class so she could share with us her last month of projects.
We were amused by her poetry book.
Here are the titles:
Waves
Sunny Yellow
The Beach
Sun

You can take the girl out of California but you can't take the California out of the girl.
We were chuckling reading each entry.
She loves being warm, last week it was about 70 degrees and after playing in the water she set up her towel and laid in the sun while reading her book.

The morning after school got out the kids headed to Alaska to see their grandparents!

I later went to the gym, came home and showered and then collapsed.

And Clay and I celebrated our 15th anniversary at
the Oak in downtown Boulder.
Although we forgot it was our anniversary given the insane amount of life going on, it didn't matter.
So glad we found each other to make this family of ours!

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
