Milkbarn Maintenance

Our well
(yes! we have a water well)
is housed in this very very old, falling apart, miniature golf styled, haunted hut right in front of the Milkbarn.
(one of a number of eyesores on the property)

The Milkbarn exterior needs quite a bit of work.
Understatement of the year.
We will fix that soon enough come spring...or summer...
heaven willing!

Clay and I woke up early a couple of weeks ago.
It was his first business trip for his new job(our new normal now) so I wanted to actually send him off awake!
Of course, we woke up to no water.
Talk about stress!
After checking on the well, Clay diagnosed the problem.
The pump had burned up and the plumbing rattled loose.
We had no water.
Again.
(our normal)

Here is the still life of the broken parts.
Clay headed to Lowes and purchased a new water tank, pump and everything else needed at 6am.
He got on a later flight which was, in my mind, a tender mercy.
We are trying to figure out how we can make our family work with him traveling during the week. Somehow this forced us to see how nice it would be to have him home for breakfast with all of us each Monday morning, giving him a good start to the week.
Who knew a broken well pump could be a blessing?
And my water is no longer brown from a rusty tank.
woo hoo!

Allowable weaknesses

For the interior, we started tackling our closets in the master bedroom.

Not too much is getting done at the moment but we really hope to get our room finished by spring break.
Our deadlines, I realize, are just suggestions at this point.
Flexibility is a virtue that goes under appreciated.
That's what I tell myself anyway.

The state of affairs in our master suite.

When I saw this on facebook I laughed.

Agreed.

I took a weekend to see my sister in her new home outside of Portland, Oregon.
These food cart pods are amazing.
I would've eaten everything if I was able too!

When we came upon these trees at Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach, I died.
I forgot how much I loved Redwoods and have missed seeing them.

I love sea level.

My sister Marcie with Danny and Ella.

When I got back I chaperoned a middle school band/orchestra
field trip.
This is how they reacted to me on the bus.
I took 3 Tylenol when I got home.
Henry actually liked it though.

Chester discovered Henry's skateboard when the snow melted off.

I discovered my daughter Lucy had put all these inspirational quotes up in her closet when I was putting something away in her room.
I am constantly rewarded as I can see her chart a course for good.

It's almost the weekend!
We have birthday parties, homework, basketball games and some  Milkbarn work to do.
And sweet Audrey will turn 10.

Audrey Graduates!

And just like that, she is done with high school! A couple of days before, I had her try on all the cords she received. We have lovingly teased her about being a boss lady for quite sometime, but it is a legitimate moniker! I think she was pleased to have more cords than her older siblings too:) Cords and what they represent: white-Seminary graduate red- Red Cross club rainbow- art for 2+ years with an A purple-maintaining a 4.0 GPA for 7+ semesters blue & green- completing 200+ service hours blue & gold- National Honor Society club She decorated her cap as a future cougar:) Still planning her outfits out since kindergarten and I love it. Picking up the older kids the day of her graduation...haha Our go-to Hawaiian plate lunch meal for graduation! 💗Ready to go💗 Aunt Marcie flew in for the best surprise visit!  She made it memorable for everyone.  And served as our graduation photographer. If I hadn't been so busy, I would have cried upon her arrival💗 Cougar for life! It

London Layovers

This post is going backwards because this is one of the last photos I took in London before we went home.  I was also feeling very sick but adrenaline kicked in....because hello, it's LONDON ! I completely loved London.  I wasn't expecting that at all.  I thought I'd like it but I LOVED it.   I'm already calculating when I can go back with the girls:) Our charter bus from the cruise dropped us at Heathrow 7 hours early and the airline attendant when checking our bags noted that we  "were quite early" :) So we hopped on the Elizabeth Line and walked over to Hyde Park. It was full of friends, and dogs off leash with their owners, families...just everything. It just felt perfect. Like, was this real? Am I in a movie? Are these accents real? Oh wait...I'm the one with the accent:)  ( Remember, I have never really traveled outside of the the country and now the pandoras box of traveling is officially open...okay,  I digress...) Anyway, back to our afternoon  i

We Are Officially Building That House!

And....we're off! First concrete pour was a success Along with a crew involving other people outside  of our humble brigade! This is the garage floor which really should be called  Clay's shop floor haha let's be honest here :) the mastermind at hand :) ten years ago we took this photo upon our move into the Milkbarn, the home that changed me, changed all of us really. What an era that was for us! I mentioned to Clay as we build our home here on the coast,  my heart will finally mend from leaving Boulder. We are much older(sigh),  much wiser(that's good!),  and even more patient(almost killed us and we wanted to quit too many times to count). But here we are.  The immense joy we get when we work together creatively is really something else. It's taken us forever. The pieces are fitting together. God definitely took his time with us. And now...we're back :) (p.s. most of what we'll do will be in my stories section on my instagram @jenniferjoycolli
